Lake Superior SS1K
Just signed up for another quick lap of Lake Superior. June 24 2017. More info here:
http://members.triton.net/vandenbe/LKSuperior1K.htm
I am going to do it this time on a Honda Forza 300. Yep, it's a scooter.
If any of you guys wanna try it just contact Jim. He is a great guy.
Here were my gas stops from my 2014 lap. Will be very similar on the Forza as I can go 160 miles easy.

What a great idea! How long will it take to complete the circle? I see the record is 21 hours, but is your plan that aggressive, or a more relaxed multi-day pace?

I hope it's a relaxed ride as to blitz it defeats the purpose in my view.
But to each his own of course.
Still rockin', rollin', and ridin' after all these years

I should do it 21 hours easy. Last time was 19 and change but that was on the CB1100. I don't know where those people who printed that map got their info but it is incorrect. Guys I know have done it in17 hours or less on Gold Wings and FJR's, GSA's, etc,,,,,

RE: Lake Superior SS1K
Just bumping this up. Jim tells me via email there are about 13 riders signed up for this Iron Butt. The state of Michigan just bumped up the speed limits on most of the UP roads this route covers from 55 to 65 mph. That won't help me much cuz I am doing this on a scooter!
If anyone wants to try a pre sanctioned Iron Butt and you have a passport and no DUI's on your driving record this is a good ride. This will be my 6th trip around The Big Lake in various motor vehicles.

Sounds like fun, but I'm doing a Lake Michigan 1000 on June 27th (give or take a day).

Should be fun Ole and if your knee holds out it should be fun.
Heck we just did 7/10 of that in 12 hours coming back from Ark. Lol

RE: Lake Superior SS1K
Turned 3600 miles on the Forza 300 today. Parked it in the garage and a half hour later there was an oil/anti freeze puddle under the weep hole on the water pump!
I ordered the four parts I need but not sure if I can get it sorted before my Lake Superior ride. If the Forza is still down I will use the 17 year old Shadow ACE Tourer. It did Arkansas just fine.
I really wanted to do it on the scoot. Cross your fingers for me!
BTW the Forza was built in Thailand. Honda on their dime has already put on two fuel pumps. Thailand plastic fuel pump housings do NOT like American fuel with rotten corn in it. The impellers lock up when the housing swells inward,,,,,

I hope you get your scooter fixed, Ole. Be sure to report back either way and best of luck to you on your ss1000!
